In First Kings chapter 17, Elijah said to the wicked king Ahab: “As the Lord God of Israel lives, before Whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, except at my word.” And, the scripture says, it did not rain for over three years. And during this time of drought and famine, the Lord sustained Elijah by the Word that the Lord sent, revealing to him where water from a brook would be provided, as well as meat would be brought to him by ravens. Where a woman in Zarephath was supernaturally provided flour and oil to make bread for herself, her son and Elijah. The Word that the Lord sent said: “For thus says the Lord God of Israel: The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain upon the earth.” All this came to pass according to the Word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah.
The woman of Zarephath was sorely tested when her son became sick and died. She brought him to Elijah, who took her son, stretched himself out on the child three times and cried out to the Lord, saying: “Oh Lord my God, I pray, let this child’s soul come back to him” The Lord heard the cry of Elijah, and child was raised to life. The woman then said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth.”
Jesus is the Word that was Sent, for the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. And we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth. He is the Bread of life that the Father sent to sustain you in your walk with Him. He is the oil of joy that replenishes you when you go though dry times in your life. He is the vital rain that pours out upon your desert. He is the Voice of Intercession that calls out to the Father saying “Let this child’s soul return to him.” He restores your soul.
He has called you by name, for He says: “I have called you by name, and you are Mine” “I have loved you with an everlasting love.” “I will restore unto you the years that the swarming locust has eaten.” “I know the thoughts I have toward you, says the Lord; thoughts of peace, not of evil, to give you a future and hope.”
The desert you have been walking through is about to blossom as the rose, for the rain is, right now, pouring out upon your desert. Look for the rain. It is the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. It is the promise that Jesus spoke about that is restoring the hope you once had. He is leading you into the truth that you have been needing to hear from Him Weeping had endured for the night, but joy is now coming to the heart that holds on. Hold on my child. Joy comes in the morning.
